A bizarre sequence of events early Friday morning ended with the arrest of a 20-year-old Brandon Dale Harris of LaFayette.

Harris was arrested about 2:45am Friday after a vehicle, which Walker County deputies says he had stolen, crashed.

Following the accident, deputies say, Harris then broke into Sunnyside Baptist Church where he set multiple fires. The church sustained fire, smoke and water damage.

The accident took place near Round Pond Road and Old Ringgold Road; the church is located in the 3500 block of Round Pond Road in Lafayette.
Sheriff Steve Wilson said in a news release that Harris is a suspect in other thefts and entering autos that occurred Thursday night and Friday morning.

Harris has been charged with arson to a place of worship, motor vehicle theft, burglary 2nd degree and probation violation, Wilson said.
Harris will appear in Walker County Superior Court at a later date.
