Jack Daniel Distillery seeks commemorative stamp
LYNCHBURG, TN (AP) - Jack Daniel Distillery is asking the U.S. Postal Service to issue a stamp honoring its founder as the distillery prepares for its 150th anniversary.
Included with its petition is a letter signed by every member of Tennessee's congressional delegation supporting the request.
The distillery founded in 1866 by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel is the oldest registered American distillery. It is based in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Lynchburg was also Jack Daniel's home until his death in 1911.
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is the flagship brand of Louisville, Kentucky-based Brown-Forman Corp.
The distillery said in its letter to the post office's Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee that its request meets the committee's criteria, including honoring people who have made extraordinary contributions to American society and celebrating historically significant events.
