Man accused of killing Walker County Sheriff's K-9 is sentenced

WALKER COUNTY, GA (WRCB) - The man accused of shooting and killing a Walker County Sheriff's K-9 has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.  

Steven Lee Waldemer pleaded guilty Wednesday to several charges including aggravated battery on a peace officer, and harming a police dog.

Police say Waldemer shot the dog, and an officer outside a trailer in rural Walker County back in June.  

Deputies were there to arrest Waldemer on sexual assault charges.  

The deputy survived the shooting, however the K-9, Tanja did not.

She's the first K-9 deputy killed in the department's history.
