(WRCB) - Good Wednesday. We start the "chilly" month of October with unseasonably warm air. We should be in the upper 70s this time of year. We will climb to about 87 in Chattanooga this afternoon.. After the patchy morning fog burns off, we will enjoy mostly sunny skies.
Our cool nights will continue tonight with the low dropping into the upper 50s! Don't be fooled, though. We will rapidly climb right back into the upper 80s Thursday afternoon. Clouds will build late Thursday ahead of a front that will move through Friday.
The front will bring in showers and storms overnight Thursday into Friday morning. I would expect a wet commute Friday morning. We will see periods of heavy rain through the morning with rainfall amounts expected to reach 1" to 2". It will clear out for most of us late Friday afternoon with a few remnant showers hanging out over the Blue Ridge into the evening hours.
For the football games Friday evening, the rain should be gone, but it will be a little breezy. Winds will blow from the NW at 10-20 mph Friday evening as the temperatures cool rapidly through the 60s during the game.
The cool air will be in place for Saturday. The low Saturday morning will drop to about 50, and the high will only reach 70 in the afternoon with nothing but sunshine.
Sunday will start even cooler with a low of 45. We will warm a little Sunday afternoon, but it will still be an awesome weekend day as the high climbs to 76.
