UPDATE: Local foundation suffers loss after fire

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - UPDATE: Chattanooga fire crews responded to the Executive Business Park off Lee Highways just after 6:30 Friday night.

When they opened the back door to Suite 401, crews say they found smoke and flames in the storage area.

“Seeing what was at stake here, in terms of the size of the building and the amount of smoke, they decided to bring in some extra fire companies so we had a total of 12 responding here,” Chattanooga Fire Department Public Information Officer Bruce Garner said.

Firefighters were able to keep most of the flames from spreading, but smoke did migrate into the attic and spread throughout the rest of the building.

Crews were also fighting the humidity; another reason they called for backup.

“So those that were already inside where it was very hot, they can be pulled out and swapped out with fresh firefighters and they've been doing that since I've been here,” Garner added.

As crews try to figure out a cause, we're told the suite is being used as storage by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

“It's connected with the Race for the Cure charity. It had a lot of storage of t-shirts and paraphernalia and things like that,” he said.

Organization leaders tell Channel 3 race t-shirts and some participant giveaways for the 15th Annual Race for the Cure on October 12th are a complete loss.

No one was hurt in the fire.

UPDATE: The fire is believed to have started in Suite 401.

Investigators tell Channel 3 the fire did spread to the attic, but firefighters were able to keep it contained to suite where it started.
