UPDATE: Bradley Co. child hit by car while boarding bus

UPDATE: Cleveland Police tell Channel 3 that the Cleveland City School bus was headed south on Westland Drive with the yellow lights on the bus flashing to warn motorists.

A black Toyota Scion, driven by a 17-year-old, was headed north on Westland.

Police say the child darted across the road and was struck by the vehicle, sustaining leg injuries.

She is expected to be released later Friday.

The driver of the Toyota was cited for failure to yield.

PREVIOUS STORY: A six-year-old girl was hit by a car while getting on the school bus Friday morning.

Bradley County EMS responded to a call of a child hit by a car on Westland Drive in front of the Park Town Apartments.

The child was reportedly getting on the school bus when she was hit. She was taken to Children's Hospital at Erlanger.
It's not clear the extent of her injuries.

“Driver's must be alert when it comes to our school zones and bus stops. Please obey those posted speed limits and pay extra attention when school buses are present.” says Stan Clark, Bradley County EMS spokesman.

The investigation is ongoing.
