The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam.

The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam.   An individual is calling residents telling them he is a detective with the GBI or he is with the Whitfield Co. Sheriff's Office. He then tells the resident that he has a warrant for them because they missed jury duty and to avoid arrest they must pay $1500.

He then instructs them to get three Green Dot cards and put $500 on each card and provide him with the numbers on the card for verification. The suspect has used the name of Mike Ayers and Mike Harris.

Once the suspect obtains that number he can cash in that amount without having possession of the card.

The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau Of Investigation will never call individuals on the telephone and tell them in order to avoid an arrest they must load money on a card and provide a verification number.

Anyone that receives any type of call soliciting money should be very cautious because of the various telephone scams suspects try on unsuspecting citizens.

Anyone that has provided money to this individual should report the incident to your local police agency.
