UPDATE: Catherine Goins appeared before Judge John Gass in magistrate court Thursday after being charged with the murder of Natalia Roberts.

Goins is accused of shooting Roberts in the head and taking her 3-week-old baby.

As Judge has read off each charge against her, Goins replied tearfully “Yes sir,” when asked if she understood each charge.

Catoosa County Chief Public Defender David Dunne did not ask the judge for an bond for Goins.

A preliminary hearing for Goins has not yet been set.

UPDATE: Catoosa County detectives spent Wednesday searching for evidence inside and around Catherin Goins, 37, Hixson home.

“Catherine Goins killed Natalia Roberts because she wanted her baby,” Sheriff Gary Sisk said.

As investigators look for clues, neighbors in the Riverglen Community are still trying to come to terms that they have been deceived.

Nicholas Arthur lives a few doors down.

“She had a big belly, a baby belly. But you don't ask, you don't run up and touch someone's belly just because they're pregnant, you know?” he said.

Arthur's two girls are friends with Goins' daughter. The three often played together. Now, he has to explain what their friend's Mom is accused of doing.

“I'm still waiting on the thought to pop in my head to sit down and do what I have to do to explain, you know what I mean?” he added.

An example that this situation has more than just one victim.

“They're going to have to grow up without their mother. And the family members that they did this to, she had family members too,” another neighbor added.

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA (WRCB) - Police say the woman who is accused of shooting a young mother last Friday did so -- to take her newborn baby as her own.

Catherine Goins was arrested Tuesday night for the murder. Police tell Channel 3 it took several days to piece together the events of the day, the victim, 30 year old Natalia Roberts, was killed.

Goins sits behind bars at the Catoosa County Jail. Authorities say she was looking for a newborn baby to take as her own. They say that's exactly why she met and lured the young mother into her ex-boyfriend's home, Friday.

"It's very shocking we don't hear about theses kind of cases in our area very much," said Sheriff Gary Sisk. Catoosa County Sheriff's Department.

Thirty-seven-year-old Catherine Goins now sits behind bars in the Catoosa County Jail, accused of murdering 30-year-old Natalia Roberts for her new born baby. Investigators say the two were strangers who met for the first time early Friday morning.

"She just met her she saw she had a baby, Catherine Goins needed a baby, she was living in a ruse saying she had been pregnant with her boyfriend but he had found out she wasn't so she was trying to get him back," said Sheriff Sisk.

Sheriff Gary Ask says Goins lured the mother of three to her on-again-off-again boyfriend's house under the pretense that she would give her baby clothes.

"He had said she was pregnant and that she had an abundance of baby clothes to give away or to sell" said one neighbor.

"That was the story she used to try and get her to come back to the house," said Sheriff Sisk.

Deputies say an unsuspecting Roberts showed up to the home with her 3-year-old and 3-week-old. They say while walking down the stairs Roberts was shot in the back of the head by Goins with a .380 caliber gun. Deputies say Goins tried to clean up the crime scene.

"Catherine Goins killed Natalia Roberts because she wanted her baby.  It shocks the conscience. We've got a family that's having the loss of a daughter, a mother of children, grand daughter, niece," said Sheriff Sisk. " I said she murdered her because that's what she did... flat out murdered her."

"My heart goes out to her family especially these children," said neighbor John Tipton. "It's beyond belief."

Sheriff Sisk says Goins then took Roberts two young children away in her car. She brought them back to the crime scene when the ex-boyfriend asked her to. Deputies say the two small children are now with family members. Investigators wouldn't say if the kids witnessed the shooting or not. Neighbors told Channel 3 Eyewitness News Goins had ads on Craigslist for an abundance of baby clothes. Sheriff Sisk would not comment on exactly how the two women met each other.

Catherine Goins is charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Tampering with Evidence and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime. Her first appearance is expected to be held Thursday.
