CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - The Chattanooga Police Department is moving their Alpha Zone headquarters to the 11th Street Precinct, which also houses the Bravo and Charlie Zones, according to a news release from the police department.

Officers reporting to Alpha Zone now have three avenues of getting to their area, with better coverage and quicker response time.

The zones are specific areas of the city as defined by the police department.

According to the Chattanooga Police Department website, these zones are:

  • Alpha Zone -  North Chattanooga, Riverview, Mountain Creek, Signal Mountain Road area, Hixson and Middle Valley
  • Bravo Zone - Coolidge Park, Renaissance Park, the North Shore (and the entire Waterfront), the downtown area, the M.L.K. Blvd. and Main Street areas, Lincoln Park, and the Westside Community
  • Charlie Zone - South Chattanooga, St. Elmo, Alton Park, Tiftonia and Lookout Valley
  • Delta Zone -  Brainerd, Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, Eastgate Town Center, and the I-75 and I-24 split
  • Echo Zone - Youngstown Rd. from Bonny Oaks Dr. to Lightfoot Mill Rd. on the North, North Crest Rd. on the East, McCallie Avenue on the South and the river on the West
  • Fox Zone - Ridgedale, Highland Park, and Eastlake. Interstate 24 east and west is included in Fox Zone. Fox Zone also borders with Echo Team, Bravo, and Charlie
  • George Zone - Highway 58, East Brainerd, and the Ooltewah area recently annexed. Interstate 75 and Highway 153 are also included
“As a Captain in our police department, it is my job to ensure we provide the most effective service to the community we serve,” said Captain Corliss Cooper. “Not only is it more efficient to have one centralized location, officers serving the Alpha Zone will now have three routes to arrive at their assigned sector, greatly decreasing an officer's travel time.”

"We're trying to do everything we can to help out officers be more efficient; the more uncommitted time they have, the more they can employ community policing, the more they can get out of their cars and engage the community and create the positive encounters and kind of service the community told us they want," says Police Chief Fred Fletcher.

Alpha Zone consists of one Lieutenant, six Sergeants, and 32 Patrol Officers. With the addition of Alpha Zone the 11th Street Precinct now houses one captain, three lieutenants, 18 sergeants, 86 patrol officers, and five bike officers.
