UPDATE: Woman shot and killed at home in Ringgold

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Jodie Dunaway describes her Ringgold neighborhood as a typical, quiet community.

“All you usually hear is a lawn mower starting up or mail running,” she said.

But Friday afternoon, those typical noises were interrupted by gunfire next door.

“Today, I just couldn't tell what that noise was. It was loud enough like a fire cracker,” she added.

Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk tells Channel 3 the homeowner's on and off again girlfriend was inside the Smoketree Circle home when she heard a noise.

“Today was the first time I realized she was back in the picture because I saw her car,” Dunaway said.

Sisk says she grabbed a gun and saw the shadow of a figure in the hallway with something in their hand. That's when Sisk says she fired the fatal shot killing an unarmed woman inside the home.

“I never dreamed that someone would get shot and killed,” Dunaway added.

Investigators aren't sure why the woman was at the home and didn't clarify if those involved knew each other.

“We're still in the process of trying to find out exactly what everyone's relationship is, who knew who, who didn't know who and things like that,” Sisk said.

Investigators have not released the name of the woman killed or the others involved.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Catoosa County Sheriff's Office confirms to WRCB that around noon Friday, deputies and investigators responded to 227 Smoketree Circle, in Ringgold  on a call of a subject being shot.

Upon arrival, officers located two females and one male at the residence. One of the females was lying at the bottom of the stairs inside the residence. Emergency Services pronounced her deceased on the scene.

After speaking with the other female, officers were told that she is an on-again, off-again girlfriend to the homeowner who was at work at the time of the incident.

The female told officers she was inside the home when she heard a noise and said when she called out no one answered.

She told officers that she heard a noise again and immediately ran to the bedroom where she retrieved a firearm.

Investigators tell Channel 3, the female saw a darkened shadow in the area of the hallway that appeared to have something in their hand and she then discharged her firearm.

Investigators are continuing their preliminary investigation in reference to the relationships of everyone involved in the incident.

No identities will be released at this time.
