UPDATE: Man convicted of rape and sodomy sentenced

DALTON, GA (WRCB) -
UPDATE: Antonio Cruz, who was convicted in November, 2015 of rape, aggravated sodomy, burglary in the first degree, family violence aggravated assault, terroristic threats and false imprisonment was sentenced today by Superior Court Judge Cindy Morris after a pre-sentencing investigation and sentencing hearing.
Judge Morris ordered that Cruz serve a life sentence on the rape charge with the first 30 years to be served in confinement and without parole.
On the aggravated sodomy count, Cruz was sentenced to life with the first 25 years in confinement and without parole, consecutive to the rape charge. On the remaining charges, 20 years for burglary and aggravated assault, 10 years for false imprisonment and 5 years for terroristic threats.
As conditions of any future probation, Cruz will have to register as a sex offender and will be prohibited from having contact with the victim.

Antonio Cruz, 41, was arrested in his home on Barbara Avenue in Dalton shortly before 6:00am Friday, according to a news release from the Dalton Police Department.
The rape was reported earlier Friday at a nearby apartment complex.
Cruz was charged with rape, aggravated stalking and aggravated assault.
The victim identified Cruz as the suspect to police, and told investigators that Cruz had returned to his home.
At about 4:00am, Dalton Police Department officers set up a perimeter around Cruz's home. After a few hours of telephone discussion, Cruz surrendered to police.
