What a great time the band is having at Hixson High School. Director Matt McHenry has been at the helm for a decade and says numbers are up, the students are great, and they are growing, just like the school.
The Hixson halftime show is entitled "Just Dance," familiar to anyone with an X-Box. It features the music of Michael Jackson, Mark Antony, and Daft Punk. The group is headed to a few contests, this school year, especially in the spring with the concert band.
And that means they will be busy with fundraising. If you would like to help these students out, call the school and they will put you in touch with the booster club.
For Friday Night Football, the group plays the pop music mega-hit by Macklemore "Thrift Shop." And there is a great catch, here. Hixson Senior Joseph Freeman, a Sousaphone player in the band, arranged the piece. The band read it, played it, and sang along, and now it is a mainstay in the stands.
Congratulations to the Hixson High School Marching Band and thanks for being the Channel 3 Friday Night Football Band of the Week!
