UPDATE: Area high schools to help Food Bank "tackle" hunger

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - UPDATE:  In the first game to Tackle Hunger it was Ooltewah against East Hamilton.  The food has been collected and weighed with East Hamilton winning Friday night's contest with 110lbs or 97 meals. Ooltewah raised 47 lbs or 39 meals. Food collected go to benefit the Chattanooga Food Bank. 

The Chattanooga Area Food bank is teaming up with area high schools during football season to "tackle" hunger.

This week's Tackle Hunger Food Drive will be at the Ooltewah vs. East Hamilton game. Students and fans are encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable food items or money to Friday's game at East Hamilton to donate to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. Donations will be taken at the gate.

The total amount of food and money collected at the gate will be announced during halftime.

The Food Bank is always in need of:

  • canned fruits/vegetables
  • cornmeal    
  • flour
  • grits
  • pasta
  • rice
  • canned meats (tuna, chicken)
  • dry beans
  • fruit/vegetable juice
  • oats/oatmeal
  • peanut butter
  • soups
The Food Bank will host three additional Tackle Hunger Food Drives this season:

  • Silverdale vs. Grace - 10/17/2014
  • Hixson vs. Red Bank - 10/17/2014
  • Marion County vs. South Pittsburg - 10/31/14
