Georgia Power price plan rattles solar developers

ATLANTA (AP) - A plan by an electricity utility to change the way it pays for solar power is worrying solar developers.

The utility recently discussed ending the flat price it pays for electricity generated from certain small- and medium-sized solar producers. Instead, the company wants to buy solar energy from projects offering the lowest prices.

Georgia Power has agreed to temporarily halt its plan until there are more discussions.

The utility says its plan would make sure customers get the cheapest rates for solar energy. Developers fear people will be reluctant to build smaller solar projects if uncertain prices make the costs and benefits less clear.
