Day of Caring lasts an extra day for two schools

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) - The annual "Day of Caring"  lasted an extra day Friday as TVA employees helped give the campus of the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy a nice cleanup.

Volunteers rolled up their sleeves  and trimmed shrubs, pulled weeds, spread mulch and planted flowers.

Volunteers say it's an opportunity for federal workers to give their time and donate to different charities, but it's about more than just the money.

Each year, federal employees have the opportunity to contribute to charities or organizations of their choice through the combined federal campaign.

And volunteers are working to give Howard High School a better cafeteria.

Thirteen workers from Providence Service Corporation and Camelot Care Centers painted the school's cafeteria all afternoon Friday.

It's the local group's first ever international day of service.

The group came to paint the cafeteria, but officials say the work doesn't stop there. The project is one of hundreds that PSC staff across the nation did to give back to their communities.

There are 5 1/2 weeks left of the Meteorological winter and 8 1/2 weeks until the spring equinox. As air in you're home may still be dry from the cold weather, here is a quick way to detect if it's too dry. Do you get shocked? This is a sure way there isn't enough moisture in the air. H2O is a conductor of neutrons, electrons, and photons. When H2O is removed, or there is less of it available, dry air insulated the neutrons, electrons, and photons and allows these to get highly cha...
