CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - September 11, is the United Way's “Day of Caring” and workers are showing the community just how dedicated they are on the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The “Day of Caring” is in its 25th year.

Five-hundred volunteers are spreading across Chattanooga working on 45 projects, ranging from painting buildings, landscaping, and building roofs.

The YCAP Woodshop program on 16th street is getting a new roof.

Board chair Tom Glenn says it's important to give back, and with the new roof, children will be able to take classes.

But it's not only the kids who benefit.

“One of best things about Day of Caring is donors get the opportunity to participate and see the sights first hand,” Glenn said.

United Way officials say they have worked to improve education in this neighborhood and strive to help the community become more stable.
