GA sex offender sentenced on child porn charges

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a registered sex offender has been sentenced to prison for receiving child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said Tuesday that 35-year-old Charles Pelts of Marietta was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Authorities say federal investigators discovered that Pelts had been using two email addresses to exchange pornography that featured young children. Authorities say Pelts received about 11,000 images of child pornography - including images of toddlers and infants. Prosecutors say the man's phone also contained about 4,050 child porn images.

Prosecutors say Pelts has been a registered sex offender since 2004.

Pelts has also been ordered to serve a lifetime of supervised release after his sentence.
