Among the great programs the Howard Hustlin' Tigers are known for is their marching band. Director Dexter Bell, in his fourth year at the school, says it is truly a college readiness program. His students have been able to go work and audition for music scholarships at Alabama State University. This past weekend, the group was even invited to play for Tennessee State University at the John A. Merritt Classic in Nashville, on LP Field!
Bell says he loves the kids, had a great band camp, and when we caught the band in week 0, was in the midst teaching the halftime show. He calls it ‘motivating with simple drill to help get the new students developed and up to speed,' and something the crowd will really enjoy.
Counting auxiliary, the group numbers around 70 strong, this year. In the stands, the Sousaphone section helped me introduce a Howard ‘Go' cheer. Don't miss their performance; this one, and especially if the come to an away game near you!
Thanks and congratulations to the Howard Hustlin' Tigers Marching Band, our Friday Night Football Band of the Week!?
