CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - A mother has been released on her own recognizance after she reportedly left her three young children unattended at an International House of Pancakes restaurant in Hixson.

Keisha Carter, 30, faces a charge of child neglect after she reportedly left her three young children sitting at a table unattended for four hours, according to an affidavit of complaint.

Carter had an argument with the children's  father at the restaurant located at 5113 Highway 153 last month. He went outside to his vehicle to cool down. He told police he watched Carter place their baby in a car seat in another vehicle. He assumed the other children were with her and left.

Carter said she takes responsibility for what happened. She turned herself in yesterday.

All of the children are under the age of 10. Child Protective Services has also launched their own investigation.

Carter's next court date is set for Oct. 10 before Hamilton County Sessions Court Judge David Bales.
