UPDATE: North GA residents brace for more flooding tonight

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

As the Tennessee Valley remains under a very humid air mass and scattered storms continue to develop, there's more concern for flash flooding, especially across north Georgia.

Portions of north Georgia have received two to five inches of rainfall the past few days and more heavy rain from storms is possible tonight. These storms could produce an additional two to four inches of rain, leading to localized flash flooding of roads and low-lying land.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect for the following counties until 8 a.m. EDT Thursday:

  • Catoosa
  • Chattooga
  • Dade
  • Fannin
  • Gilmer
  • Murray
  • Union
  • Walker
  • Whitfield

The watch comes after several streets and buildings were flooded in the Dalton area after earlier storms.

If you have to hit the roads tonight, please be careful. If you approach an area of high water turn around and find another route.
