CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) - Grieving relatives of a west Georgia boy say they can't fathom what motivated his violent death a week ago.
Nizzear Rodriguez celebrated his 13th birthday the day before he was killed in the early morning hours last Sunday. Police say intruders broke into his grandmother's Carrollton townhome, climbed the stairs and shot the seventh-grader in the head as he slept in bed.
The boy's grandmother, Alice Stout-Osorio, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/1qQ0RxF ): "If your child isn't safe in his bed, he isn't safe anywhere."
Police have charged three suspects with murder in the case - 17-year-old Malik Davis, 21-year-old Kenneth Wheat and 24-year-old Jackquline Leann Freeman. Stout-Osorio says she knows the two men, but has no idea why they would kill her grandson. Police have not given a motive.
