Hamilton County Commissioner Fred Skillern was saluted by his colleagues at his final Commission meeting on Wednesday.  Skillern, who has represented District 1 for the past thirteen years, was defeated by Randy Fairbanks in his bid for re-election in May.  Prior to his service on the Commission, Skillern was a county School Board member for twenty years.

Skillern thanked county employees and his colleagues, saying his time on the Commission was "a breeze" compared to the School Board.  Long known as a fiscal conservative, he often compared his public service style to that of running a successful business.  It was a comparison he knew quite well, having owned and operated Dixie Souvenirs in Soddy-Daisy for the past several years.

Also leaving the Commission is District 7 representative Larry Henry, who was elected Circuit Court Clerk.  Sabrena Turner was elected to the District 7 seat.  Turner, Fairbanks, and other recently elected county officials will be sworn in Tuesday at the Convention and Trade Center.
