Mother, toddler critically injured in W. Knoxville crash involving pantsless driver

Posted: Updated:
KNOXVILLE, TN (Knox News) - An allegedly impaired — and pantsless — woman was taken into custody Monday after the SUV she was driving broadsided a car at a West Knoxville intersection, leaving a mother and her toddler son seriously injured.

Bystanders stopped the alleged drunken driver from fleeing the crash scene at the corner of Middlebrook Pike and Piney Grove Church Road, witnesses said.

“If I had to sit on her until the police came, that was gonna happen,” said Julie Lapolla. “And she had no bottoms on, she had no underwear on ... she asked me for my pants.”

The crash was reported at 7:17 p.m. when the Ford pulled onto Middlebrook Pike from Piney Grove Church Road and T-boned a Nissan Altima, pushing the sedan into a Honda CRV, according to Knoxville Police Department Sgt. Todd Foster.
