We begin our Band of the Week segment of Friday Night Football in Marion County on hot and humid August evening. The Pride of the Valley is looking great in purple and white (it is their second season in those new uniforms) and the students are excited to get out of the stands and onto the field for halftime.
Steve Burdick has been Director of Bands at Marion County High School for 15 years and calls this group, "a great bunch of kids who work really hard." They are building off of a successful band camp in which they learned their halftime show, a salute to Journey. That is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser, but asked if the students connect with pop/rock of the 80's, Burdick said, "Yes! They all listen to it, their parents play it, and the kids know every lyric."
If you are in Jasper or the Marion County area and want to help the Pride of the Valley Marching Band out, their fruit sales begin at the end of October and run through early November. Contact Mr. Burdick at the Marion County High School Band Room for more details.
Congratulations to members of the Marion County Pride of the Valley Marching Band for their hard work so far, and much luck for a great season ahead!
