UPDATE: A Whitfield County mother is out of jail on a 15-hundred dollar bond after her five year old son took suspected marijuana to his school last week.

Deputies say 24-year old Maria Franchesca Gordon admitted the marijuana was hers after her kindergarten student found a small baggie of the substance inside his shoe.

He told his teacher who alerted authorities.

Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood, "And it kind of went from there, we confronted the mother and she admitted to it so, yeah, we always say we're not going to be surprised and then we find something that surprises all of us."

Gordon faces one count each of possessing marijuana of less than an ounce, and reckless conduct.

Her 5-year old son is being cared for by a relative.

A little boy finds marijuana in his shoe and police say his mother is to blame.

Wednesday, Maria Franchesca Gordon was arrested in Whitfield County after police say her 5 year old son found the bag in his shoe.

He took it to his Dug Gap Elementary School teacher, who contacted the school administration.

Gordon says the bag must have fallen in to her son's shoe by mistake.

She's charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and reckless conduct.

The little boy is currently staying with a relative.
