Lightning strike may be to blame for Douglas Dam fire

Posted: Updated:
A large fire near Douglas Dam may have been caused by lightning striking an oxygen tank and causing an explosion, according to the Sevier County Sheriff's Department.

The liquid oxygen tanks are stored about a quarter mile away from the dam. TVA says the liquid oxygen is used for water quality.

Deputies say a one-mile area around the dam is being evacuated while crews battle the blaze. The areas evacuated include the Headwater Campground, Tailwater Campground, and Mountain Lake Ranch. Some neighborhoods near the dam have been evacuated as well.
