UPDATE: Man robbed, stabbed at Chattanooga bus stop

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Police are investigating a robbery and stabbing in Chattanooga.

Officers responded to the 3800 block of Hixson Pike around 9:30 Tuesday night on a robbery call.

The victim, 22-year-old Phani Tangirala tells police he left work around 9:00 and went to the bus stop at 3800 Hixson Pike.

When he got to the stop, a man approached from the woods and demanded money. He stabbed Tangirala below the rib cage and stole cash from his wallet before running into the woods.

Tangirala was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries but did need surgery.

Police searched the area but could not find the suspect.

He's described as 5'10" to 6' tall, dressed in all black, with a black scarf covering face and armed with a possible kitchen knife. He also smelled strongly of marijuana.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police.
