Two men arrested after attempted robbery of two local businesses

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Chattanooga Police responded to 200 Chestnut Street at the Courtyard by Marriott for an armed robbery around 5 o'clock Tuesday morning,

Investigators tell Channel 3, the suspect walked into the lobby of the Courtyard by Marriott, with a handgun and demanded cash.  

The clerk was unable to open the register and the suspect fled in a vehicle which was driven by a second suspect.

Twenty minutes later, a second business robbery occurred at the McDonald's at 1117 East 3rd Street.

Investigators tell Channel 3 the suspect from the Courtyard robbery walked into the McDonald's displayed a handgun, demanded cash and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Patrol Officers spotted the suspects in a silver/dark colored Buick and a brief chase ensued, however officers were able to corner them in a parking lot where they were placed into custody without incident 

The suspects are 27-year-old Rodrick Smith and 36-year-old Kevin Perkins. Both men were transported to the Police Service Center 

Smith and Perkins are charged with Attempted Aggravated Robbery and Criminal Conspiracy for 200 Chestnut Street and Aggravated Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy and Felony Evading.

The investigation is ongoing.
