12-year-old pedestrian hit by vehicle at McCallie Campus

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - The Chattanooga Police Department responded to 500 Dodds Ave on a pedestrian struck Friday afternoon. 

When officers arrived they to Diane Kemp who told officers she parked her vehicle with the parking brake on the hill near the chapel on McCallie Campus.

Kemp's 16-year-old daughter and her daughter's 12-year-old friend waited inside the vehicle as she went inside the building. 

The daughter told police she and her friend decided to get out of the car and she turned the ignition switch off and that's when the vehicle began to roll backwards down the hill. 

While the vehicle was rolling the daughter's friend fell out of the open rear passenger door and the car ran over her right leg, and stopped with her leg pinned between the front wheel and a curb.  

Witnesses lifted the vehicle off of her leg prior to EMS arriving. The 12-year-old was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this crime to call 423-698-2525. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
