Fleischmann says he has a proven track record

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Republican congressman Chuck Fleischmann is in a heated race with Weston Wamp.

Fleischmann defeated Wamp in 2012. Today Wamp told us he's confident going into the primary vote.

And Fleischmann is saying the same and that he has a four year record to stand on.

Fleischmann says he's extremely confident.

We caught up with the congressman early today as he was making the rounds.

At various voting precincts in Hamilton County.

He says he has two terms to stand on.

And during the debates he's criticized Weston Wamp for trying to appeal to the democrats.

He reiterates that the voters of the 3rd district want a true conservative.

But we asked him about negative advertising and the potential impact on his campaign.

"When you run a campaign, politics is a competitive sport. It's part of the entire dynamic. I'm a positive person. I want to focus on my strong, fiscal and social conservative record. But we're going to close strong. I'm an optimist today, I'll be an optimist tomorrow. And i look forward to being an optimist as I continue on as your congressman," Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, (R) TN

Again, Fleischmann says he's confident, but he's not the only one on the Republican ticket with his eye on Washington.
