Mammograms help save lives no matter your age

Posted: Updated:
A new study reveals mammograms are beneficial for women over the age of 75.
There has been a lot of debate about the value of screening older women for breast cancer, even though they have the highest risk for the disease.
When researchers looked at more than 15-hundred breast cancer patients over 75, they found most cases that were detected by a mammogram were caught at an earlier stage than cases detected by a doctor or the patient herself.
Mammogram detected breast cancers also required fewer mastectomies, less chemotherapy and had a better five year survival rate than cancers found without a screening.
