A Red Bank woman says a man stole her dog while she was volunteering in the Peace Corps.

Nam Dang says a friend agreed to watch her Australian Shepard and Husky mix named "Bibi" while she volunteered teaching English in rural China.  But while she was away, she says the man changed the dog's name, tried to take over vet records and now won't return the dog.

Nam paid thousands of dollars to fly home and get her pooch this week. Now she's fighting a civil battle to get Bibi back.

"It's like he's like Cruella de Vil. Who steals a dog? Especially when there are so many you can foster just like her," Nam Dang said.

The man who currently has the dog tells Channel 3 he's not a thief, but that he thinks it's in the dog's best interest to stay with him since he's taken care of her for the last 13 months.

A court date has not been set yet in this unusual case.
