CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Chattanooga Police tell Channel 3 that one man is dead and two others were injured after the car they were traveling in ran off the road and and struck a utility pole.

Investigators  were responding to a call early Sunday morning when they noticed wires down at 2100 Amnicola Hwy and saw that a car had run off the road.

44-year-old James Hewitt was pronounced dead at the hospital. 33-year-old Gilbert Payne and 41-year-old Brandi Wright were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators tell Channel 3 the vehicle was traveling south on Amnicola Hwy at Curtin Pole Road when it left the roadway surface for reasons unknown.

Then it then slid across a grassy area and struck a utility pole where it took heavy front damage before coming to final rest.

Police tell Channel 3 that the three victims were trapped inside the vehicle, but  emergency responders were able to extricate all parties involved.
