MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Police in Rutherford County are searching for two people who allegedly fled from a traffic stop on Interstate 24.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said a deputy stopped the driver of a 2014 black Ford Explorer near mile marker 85 on I-24 East around 10 a.m. Thursday.

The deputy said he was talking to the driver and passenger when one of them jumped into the vehicle and drove away and the other ran toward the tree line.

ICE deputies, patrol deputies and detectives were called in to help search for the suspects, who have not been identified at this time.

The sheriff's office said law enforcement agencies in surrounding counties have been notified to be on the lookout.
