Officials in Hamilton County will hold a memorial sign dedication ceremony in honor of a firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty.

Shane Daughetee died January 26, 2007 while battling a house fire.

Daughetee died doing what he loved. While trying to save a family, including a child, from a burning home, he fell two stories to his death.

Daughetee had won a firefighter of the year award not long before his death.

Thursday, Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger will dedicate a memorial sign to the fallen firefighter. A section of Highway 58 from Harrison Bay Road to Mahan Gap Road will be dedicated to Daughetee.

The ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Wolftever Creek boat ramp
