Ebola: What is it?

Posted: Updated:
The world is watching the Ebola virus.  In fact the CDC is calling it the largest outbreak in history.

But what is it?

It's a deadly virus, killing anywhere from 50 to 90 percent of patients. Doctors say patients die from the effects of high fever, vomiting and diarrhea, but early treatment can often save lives.

Experts say Ebola could come to the U. S.  Bats are believed to be the source of the virus, but it is not clear how it jumps from animals to people.  And experts do not know how it spreads.

Ebola is believed to have killed 672 since February.  And right now 2 Americans in Africa are suffering from its effects. There is no known cure.
