NEW YORK, NY, July 04, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Perfectly reflecting the title of his melodically infectious but emotionally raw new EP, piano driven New York City pop/rocker Nick Deutsch has been on a Crazy Ride, receiving a series of exciting and promising accolades for three of the four tunes leading up to the official release of the collection.

The high energy optimism of "Green Light" earned him a Best Pop Male Vocal nomination at the 2013 International Music and Entertainment Awards (IMEA), while "The Static," a soaring duet with former American Idol finalist Marissa Pontecorvo," was nominated in the Pop Category of The Great American Song contest. Testament to the powerful poetry of his lyrics, the words to "Crazy Ride" recently placed second in an American Songwriter magazine contest; the lyrics were also printed in the May 2014 issue.

Deutsch was slowly building momentum even before reaching the emotional tipping point in his life that unleashed the burst of heartfelt songwriting that led to the production of the new EP. In 2011, he earned a Philadelphia Songwriter's Project Award as well as a New York Songwriter's Circle Award (for the song "Serious," from his debut EP Fly) from the organization that helped the singer break ground on his career while he was attending NYU. As an alumnus of the NY Songwriter's Circle, Deutsch is in powerful company with superstar artists Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, Norah Jones, Gavin DeGraw and one of Deutsch's biggest influences as a piano based artist, Vanessa Carlton.

The group's CEO Tina Shafer hooked up the singer with producer Joey Auch to help him work on the tracks for Crazy Ride. The singer describes Auch as "an absolute genius, who has an ear for contemporary production and a knack for building songs sonically in a way that is mind blowing. He literally had my jaw dropping every session. I recorded my first in 2010 in only two days, whereas Joey and I would spend at least two days on a single vocal line."

The irony of Crazy Ride is that a few years ago, Deutsch couldn't imagine ever writing another song, let alone creating an EP of this depth and magnitude. A huge fan of great storytelling artists past and present - he often jokes that he's the "male Taylor Swift," - he is unabashed in breaking the social taboo about men wearing their emotions on their sleeves. An essay on his website goes into poignant detail about the loss of his beloved mother, a musician and piano teacher who was his longtime primary inspiration, and how in the wake of her passing, he wasn't sure he could tap into his creative vibe again.

"I was back in my hometown of Chicago, helping my family deal with the reality of my mom's losing battle with cancer," he says. "I had a bunch of new material I'd been working on in New York, but when I got home it was like the ground gave way beneath me. She and I had the most magical, musical relationship imaginable. I had to completely let go of feeling like I understood anything about life; even looking at the piano was too painful. Strangely, I began waking up with entire melodies written in my sleep, as if the songs were writing themselves. I remember walking my dog across from the local park hearing the words, 'There'll be times when life's a gambling mess, where you'll wake alone, the night a blacked out mess."

Written as a sort of "blueprint on life" for his younger sister, "Crazy Ride" became the starting point for the EP, whose other songs covers the gamut of romantic relationship issues Deutsch has been through since then. "It's the first EP where I feel like I have my vision as an artist realized," he says. "Having been through arguably the worst experience of my life, I've become more open and fearless about the way in which I live and express myself as an artist. The realization that we truly have 'one life' has made me much more conscious of following my passion and being who I am. I'm willing to take bigger chances and see what happens. That's what Crazy Ride is about."
