Memorial service held for Walker Co. K-9 deputy killed

WALKER COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -
 It was an emotional day for Walker County law enforcement officers.  

A memorial service was held for a K-9 killed in the line of duty.  

Tanja was shot last week when she and her handler, Deputy Donnie Brown,  attempted to serve a warrant.

She is the first K-9 deputy killed in the department's history.

Channel 3 Eyewitness news photographer Jared Guest takes us to the Walker County Civic Center, where officials honored one of their own.  

Deputy Donnie Brown was also hurt in the incident. He is expected to recover.

58-year-old Steven Lee Waldemer was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including sexual assault, aggravated assault on a police officer and murder of a police canine.
