Police: Suspected armed purse snatcher nabbed

Posted: Updated:

A 28-year-old Chattanooga man is accused of robbing a woman of her purse at gunpoint before running a block away.

How did he get caught?

Another woman spotted him going through the handbag in her back yard. She called Chattanooga police.

Lyndell Green, who was booked into the jail on a $75,000 bond, faces charges of aggravated robbery and possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony.

Green approached the victim at her residence as she was getting something out of her vehicle in the 2100 block of East 13th Street, according to the affidavit of complaint.

He demanded her purse. She told him it was inside her home. Brandishing a dark gray colored handgun, he forced her inside the residence to get her handbag.

Officers with the city's Crime Suppression Unit took Green into custody in the 2200 block of East 13th Street.

Police were able to recover the woman's purse and $60 in cash that she had in her wallet before the robbery. They also found .32 caliber Falcon pistol in Green's possession.

Green is a convicted felon. He has prior convictions of assault and aggravated assault, court records show.

He declined to talk to police saying that he wanted an attorney.

Green is scheduled to appear in court June 24 before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge David Bales.
