Another hot day Thursday, storms can't be ruled out

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Good Thursday! Hot and humid air mass remains over the Tennessee Valley and a cold front approaches, keeping chances for rain and storms with us.

As a cold front slips a little southward from the Ohio River Valley, odds for scattered showers and storms today are a little better than yesterday, especially for areas northeast of the city. Highs again reach the lower 90s. Storms fade this evening with lows in the lower 70s. Isolated storms may pop up again Friday with highs in the lower 90s.

Saturday's storms chances increase as the cold front may move through our region, but highs are still expected to climb to around 90° with plenty of humidity. Lows fall to the upper 60s. Sunday's storms chances decline a little as the front stalls just to our south. Highs remain in the lower 90s. Scattered storms return Monday-Wednesday as the front moves back north through the area.

Keep in mind that some of the storms that pop up may contain small hail and gusty winds, but widespread severe outbreaks or tornadoes are not likely. The most dangerous thing about these storms up is the lightning.  Take cover in a car or in a sturdy structure if you are caught in a lightning storm!
