Chattanooga veteran remembers D-Day Invasion

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - June 6,1944 is a date retired US Navy Seal Bill Nutt remembers well. Thousands of ships and aircrafts helped support over 160,000 troops during the D-Day invasion.

The emotional battle wounds never faded.  Bill says, his teenage mind at the time wasn't mentally prepared for what was about to happen during the Normandy Landings in France.

On the 70 year anniversary, the decorated war veteran reminisced about the many close calls he encountered along the 50 mile stretch of French coastline.

The 88-year-old Chattanooga native says, he's stared death in the face one to many times and watched close friends die while in the line of fire.

Bill says, “I was only 16-years-old when I enlisted and wanted to fight for my country and freedom.”
