A Polk County man is recovering after being shot in the throat by his wife.

Polk County authorities tell Channel 3 that 49-year-old Tracy Lee Sherburn was having an argument with her husband, Richard Sherburn when she shot him in the throat using a 16 gauge shotgun.

Richard Sherburn was transported to Skyridge Medical Center and transported from there to Erlanger Medical Center where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

A police report states the suspect gave several inconsistent statements as to how the shooting took place and that investigators found evidence that indicated that the victim was not armed during the time of the shooting.

Investigators also believe that given his health conditions, Richard Sherburn may have been handicapped.

Tracy Sherbun was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder.

One person had to undergo surgery Thursday night after a shooting in Polk County, the sheriff's office confirmed.

Deputies responded to Baker Bridge Road. Additional details, including the person's condition, were immediately not available.
