Crime Stoppers: Elderly Woman Injured in Home Invasion

Posted: Updated:

This week's Crime Stoppers case is one that should offend you to your core. There is no video, no pictures of the bad guy, not even a description. There are just the disturbing facts of the crime and a burning desire to find whomever is responsible.

"Someone actually broke out the kitchen window of an elderly lady's home, explained Chattanooga Police Sgt. Daniel Jones. "Now, I'm talking an 83-year old lady."

It was the middle of the night, around 3:00 AM, at her home on Frost Street. "He actually went to her bedroom," Sgt. Jones continued, "and first thing she notices is the person standing over her. He begins to beat her and hit her in the face."

The woman would require treatment at the hospital. "After he hits her a couple of times," said Jones, "he grabs her, throws her to the floor, reaches over, grabs her purse, and runs back out of the house."

These are acts so heinous, even a thug would not likely brag about this crime. So, we cannot rely on that usual tell to give away the bad guy. The contents of the purse may hold our only clue. "Hopefully," Jones said, "this individual took something home with them. Something with the name of the victim. If anyone sees an unusual name that doesn't happen to belong to that household, please give us a call because that may be our victim."

That name could be on a check, a note, a card, anything that could be found in a woman's purse. "We need to catch this guy because, obviously, he's either done this before or he has the propensity to do it again," Sgt. Jones concluded.

Up to $1,000 reward cash is up for grabs. If you think it could be your son, your husband, your boyfriend, or someone else you know who is responsible, do not worry, we will never ask for your identity. They will never know you turned them in, but in order to keep others safe, that is exactly what you need to do.

The Crime Stoppers number is: (423) 698-3333

Call anytime, day or night. A police officer may answer the phone or return your call, but he will never ask you who you are.
