UPDATE: Man hit while walking on I-24 dies

UPDATE: The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed to Channel 3 that the pedestrian that was involved in a crash in Marion County Saturday has passed away. THP is working to confirm the man's identity. 

PREVIOUS STORY: A man had to to be airlifted to the hospital Saturday afternoon after being hit on I-24 in Marion County.

Tennessee Highway Patrol investigators say the accident happened in the Westbound lanes near mile marker 153 around 3:20pm.

Troopers say the man was hit after walking out of the median into the left lane. The driver of a minivan swerved to miss the man, but was rear ended by a pick up truck.

The pick up truck hit the man.

The driver of the truck was was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. The pedestrian's injuries are also unknown.

At this time, no charges have been filed. The accident is still under investigation.
