B.A.S.S. to Host BASSfest week at Chickamauga Lake

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – May 27, 2014 — B.A.S.S., the world’s largest fishing organization, will host BASSfest at Chickamauga Lake, June 11 - 15, in Dayton, Tenn. This event marks the sixth time B.A.S.S. will have held a professional Bassmaster tournament on Chickamauga Lake and is the sixth of nine Bassmaster Elite Series professional bass fishing tournaments scheduled in 2014.

The Bassmaster Elite Series event on Chickamauga Lake will be larger and slightly different than the other regular-season Elite tournaments. Joining the Elite Series pros in the competition will be 33 top-ranked anglers from the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens presented by All State. In addition to prize money, at stake is a coveted entry into the 2015 Bassmaster Classic to be held in Greenville, S.C. The field of competitors includes fishing superstar Kevin VanDam, 2014 Bassmaster Classic Champion Randy Howell and Toyota Angler of the Year frontrunner Mark Davis.

Competition will begin with a two-day qualifying segment for the full field on Chickamauga Lake June 11 and 12. After the second day, the field will be cut to the top 50 anglers according to cumulative weight, and those fishermen will participate in special seminars and appear at the BASSfest Expo on Fri., June 13.

The remaining anglers will have their weights zeroed and fish in a second-chance shootout on nearby Nickajack Lake on Fri., June 13. The top ten anglers in the second-chance shootout will join the top 50 anglers from the first two days of competition and compete in the semifinal round on Chickamauga Lake, Sat., June 14. The top 12 anglers, based on cumulative weights from competition on Chickamauga Lake, will advance to the final round of competition on Sun., June 15.

From watching the first boats take off at 6:15 a.m. on Wed., June 11, and the final weigh-in at Point Park on Sunday at 4 p.m., to participating in the family-friendly BASSfest Expo with many national and local vendors, the activities planned throughout the weekend are free and open to the public. Companies like Mercury, Nitro, Skeeter, Triton, and Yamaha will have booths at the expo and will offer demo rides. Toyota, Carhartt, Berkley, Booyah, Humminbird, Livingston Lures, Lowrance, Minn Kota, Mustang, Plano, Power-Pole, Shimano, Rigid Industries and Costa Sunglasses, will also exhibit.

In addition to Elite Series competition, the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Eastern Regional will take place on nearby Watts Bar Lake in Dayton, Tenn. The Eastern Regional is the fifth of six Bassmaster college tournaments. The Top 10 teams from each college tournament earn a berth in the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship, July 31 – Aug. 2, 2014 on Chatuge Reservoir in Young Harris, Ga.

Other activities planned throughout the weekend at BASSfest on Chickamauga Lake include Bassmaster University presented by Nationwide, a series of seminars from professional anglers and B.A.S.S. staff, games and prizes for attendees, and angler autograph and photo sessions. High School students who register in advance will participate in the “High School Experience,” in which Elite Series anglers and B.A.S.S. tournament staff members will teach them about tournament fishing. Prior to the weigh-in on Saturday, Costa Sunglasses will debut the fourth episode in the GEOBASS series, Nicaragua
