The Tennessee Valley Authority has closed the Thrasher Bridge for several days to repair roadway expansion joints.

The complete closure of the bridge started at 8:00pm Thursday and will stay closed through 6:00am Monday, June 23. The work may be delayed by weather.

The TVA coordinated the schedule with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop a repair plan that provided the greatest degree of safety for motorists and repair workers, according to a TVA news release.

The goal was to minimize repair times and avoid holiday weekends or major area events, such as Riverbend.

Southbound motorists on Tennessee Highway 153 will be diverted to Dupont Parkway.

Northbound traffic will be re-routed to Amnicola Highway, with all vehicles crossing the Tennessee River on the C.B. Robinson Bridge.

The total detour is less than 1.5 miles.

Motorists should expect some delays during the construction detours.
