Chattanooga National Cemetery installs surveillance cameras to combat trespassers

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Thousands will reverently make the trip to the Chattanooga National Cemetery for Memorial Day. The staff has been cleaning up, while investigators installed new equipment to make sure the property stays well maintained.

New surveillance cameras will now be making sure those who trespass will be brought to justice. In January 18 hundred tombstones were damaged. Less than two months later over 350 were also found chard and burned. The state bomb and fire marshals wouldn't comment on the investigation but they did come out and place new cameras in trees and on street poles.

Bill Catoe helps keep the grounds maintained.  He says, the grass will receive a fresh cut, over 43 thousand American flags will be placed on each and every grave and “the eye in the sky” will be watching in areas that have been vandalized in the past.”
