TBI charges McMinn County man in death of his nephew

MCMINN COUNTY, TN (WRCB) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has obtained an indictment for a McMinn County man accused of shooting and killing his nephew.

The TBI began an investigation into Marvin Derick Hayes when deputies found his nephew 22-year-old Brandon Lee Hayes shot at Marvin's home in Niota.   Brandon later died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

During the investigation, Marvin admitted to shooting his nephew.

Tuesday, the McMinn County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Marvin charging him with one count of Voluntary Manslaughter. 

Wednesday,  Hayes turned himself in to the McMinn County Jail where he is being held on a $20,000 bond.
