Lookouts Best Barons 4-1

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN- (Lookouts.com) The Lookouts (11-12) came into Saturday’s game with momentum on their side, winning five of their last seven games, including the first two of the series against the Birmingham Barons (10-13). The Lookouts were able to continue their momentum behind a dominant performance by Chris Reed, with the deafening roar of 4,656 fans spurring them to a 4-1 win.

Reed (W, 2-1) continued his early season success by only allowing one run in eight innings and lowering his ERA to 1.42 on the season. That mark is now the seventh best ERA of all starters in the Southern League. His only blemish of the night was when the Barons scored a run in the fifth inning on doubles by Josh Richmond and Chris Curley. Reed struck out four on the night, bringing his season total to 28, which is tied for third best in the Southern League.

On the mound for the Barons, starting pitcher Myles Jaye (L, 0-3) was able to keep the Lookouts hitters in check until the sixth inning, when the offense exploded and had a merry-go-round going on the base paths. Jeremy Hazelbaker got it started with a single, but was thrown out at the plate after Daniel Mayora doubled down the right field line. O’Koyea Dickson hit his own double, bringing Mayora home and tying the game at one run a piece.

The tie was broken by the next batter, Scott Schebler, who sprinted all the way around to third on a ball off the wall in left. After Erisbel Arruebarrena was hit by a pitch, Brian Cavazos-Galvez also tripled off the wall, scoring both of the runners on base. It was only when Barons first baseman Rangel Ravelo took a ball off the chest bringing the inning to a close, but the damage was done as the Lookouts scored all four of their runs in that inning.

Sunday, the Barons will send LHP Scott Snodgress (1-2, 7.11 ERA) to the mound to face off against Andres Santiago (0-1, 5.40 ERA) of the Lookouts. Don’t leave your barking four-legged friend at home, as it will be the first of two chances this year to bring man’s best friend to the ballpark for Dogs on the Diamond! First pitch will be at 2:15 PM, but make sure to arrive early if you want to parade your pup around the field before the game!

Notes: Scott Schebler went 2-for-4 on the night with a run scored and a run batted in during the sixth inning. He’s been hitting proficiently in the first three games of this series, going 6-for-12 with three home runs, five RBIs, and five runs scored.
