Tyner principal to retire, other changes for Hamilton schools

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Several Hamilton County schools will have new faces in the principal's office this fall, as the annual shuffle begins.  Although Superintendent Rick Smith has yet to officially announce any retirements, transfers or demotions, Eyewitness News has learned that several moves are already in the works.

Carol Goss will retire at the end of the school year, ending her ten-year run as principal of Tyner Academy. Also retiring is Paula Burgner, who has served as principal of Spring Creek Elementary for the past eight years.  No replacement has been named at either school.

Brown Academy principal Dr. Jennifer Spates is reportedly transferring to another position within the school district, yet to be determined.  She will be replaced by Emily Baker, who is coming out of a two-year retirement.  She was most recently principal at East Side Elementary School.

As announced previously, Jill Levine is taking a one-year leave of absence from the principal post at Normal Park to work for the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC.  An interim principal, yet to be named, will be at the helm of Normal Park during the 2014-15 school year.  In a letter to parents on Tuesday, Levine said she would return to Normal Park for the 2015-16 school year.
